Client Introduction

Sat-Ed is a startup whose goal is to provide education to rural areas in SE Asia. They accomplish this with what they call Sat-Ed's Learning Cafe, which use Sat-Ed's Digital Library to provide access to a multitude of educational content; iPSTAR satellite to deliver high-speed broadband Internet; IPTV educational Video on Demand for those people who are not computer-literate; e-health information and a whole host of other services.

Project Overview

After having established a good working relationship with Sat-Ed after completely redesigning their website in a day - just in time for the airing of an expose on their company on CNN - Sat-Ed returned to Plaroma to help develop an online tool to manage their digital content library.

The first step in the process was for us to write a detailed technical specification document based on the customer's requirements. After a few iterations to make sure everyone was on the same page the technical specification document was signed off on and the actual development could begin.

As many back end systems require a core of similar functionality, we have developed what we called our 'default admin system', which handles these core functions like user administration, permissions, settings, etc. Deploying this was the first step of the development. The custom functionality was then added on in as modular a fashion as possible.

After all the functionality was added, the site was uploaded to one of our test servers for testing; first by our in-house testers and after that by the customer. Some final adjustments and additions were made at this point, followed by the installation on the customer's server and final sign off.
